8 Great Organizations. 1 Amazing Day.
Mark your calendar for September 16. It’s the day that we all come together to help those with intellectual disabilities. Walk, run or roll around Lake Calhoun to raise funds for these great agencies to help them continue the essential work they do.
Celebrating 25 years of supporting people with disabilities
Twenty five years ago, several local nonprofit organizations that support people with intellectual disabilities came together to start a joint fundraiser called “Made in the Shade Walk Run & Roll” (MITS). More than a 5K walk around Lake Calhoun, MITS is a celebration of partnerships, friendships, fundraising and community-building that makes a difference for hundreds of people served by these organizations.
Funds raised through MITS are used for things like: music therapy sessions, art classes, home remodeling to make living spaces more accessible, purchasing handicap vehicles, job training and more. Because of extremely tight federal and state budgets, these life-enhancing improvements and therapies are only possible because of the money raised at MITS.
